Noxubee County vs Laurel Golden Tornadoes

  Final game, folks, and this should be a barn burner!  Both of these teams love to run and shoot and if this matches up this will be a high scoring affair.

Noxubee won the toss and wants it first.  Teed up, and a short kick to the 45 yard line of Noxubee. 

11:20 in the 1st Quarter - Noxubee first throws a bomb, then a 20 yard run.  First and 10 on the 32 of Laurel. Catch by Vincent Sanders for six yards makes it a 4th and 6 and they're going for it.  Conner throws to Patterson on the two and barely misses it.  Laurel has it back on downs. 

9:43 in the 1st Quarter - On the first play Kennedy breaks past the front line, dashes into the secondary, cuts between two Noxubee defenders, picked up two blocks downfield and breaks for the sidelines.  He dives into the endzone, touchdown!  Drive:  1 play 72 yards.  Extra point is good.

8:38 in the 1st Quarter - Fumble by Noxubee County, Derrick Ranson of Laurel falls on it.  1st down for Laurel on the Noxubee 28 yard line. 

7:59 in the 1st Quarter -  King Davis breaks through on a quarterback draw and scoots to the 3 yard line.

Laurel looks very fast.  They came to play in this game and they're controlling the line of scrimmage.  I haven't seen them this year but they look as fast as those guys up Panola way.

1st and goal on the 3.  Even here they line up in the Spread offense.  Great tackle by Wright to stop Davis from scoring.  Now 3rd and goal, time out.  Wow, great stop by the Tigers.  Davis had a seam but it closed very fast, cutting him off from the endzone.  Bad snap, no kick. Noxubee County Tigers take over.

On defense Laurel looks like they came to play.  The sweeps by the Tigers have been stuffed and the off tackle traps are being filled by the linebackers.  Noxubee needs a little trickery right now.

3:50 in the 1st Quarter - Bad punt puts the ball on the 29 yard line for Laurel.  Kennedy picks up a fast 7.  Great stuff by the Tigers on a 3rd and 3.  Laurel goes for it on 4th.  Davis goes wide and..... measuring for first.  That was a good stretch by Davis, he did not look like he was going to make it.  First down. 

They are spending the first quarter deep in Noxubee County territory.  The Tigers are holding on, but the Golden Tornadoes keep putting the pressure.  The quarter ends with Laurel on the Noxubee County one yard line.

End of the 1st Quarter

Laurel stuffed by Dante Skinner of Noxubee!  Incredible stuff.  The Tigers have shown some pluck to deny Laurel twice.  For Noxubee, they have to get out of the shadow of their endzone.  For Laurel, they can't keep coming up goose eggs being so close.

9:42 in the 2nd Quarter -  Holy cow!! On fourth down on his own 1 Noxubee County goes for a fake punt!! They miss it by a half-yard.  The pressure is on for both teams.  Laurel MUST make something of this.  Noxubee MUST stop them. 

8:47 in the 2nd Quarter - A crazy scramble and 4th down and 3 on the 4 yard line for Laurel.  Swing pass and no good.  Noxubee takes over on their own 4.  They are living in the shadow of their own goal posts for the first half.

The pressure on both sides gets deeper.  Noxubee stays in danger deep in its own territory and for the third time Laurel comes away with no points in the Red Zone.

8:04 in the 2nd Quarter - A first down for Noxubee County on their own 18 yard line.  A hole breaks open and Demarkus Harmon sprints to the 29 yard line.  Finally, a little daylight for the Tigers.  Another run by Harmon and their at their own 46 yard line.  Conner throws to Patrick Patterson to the Tornado 46 Yard line, then picks up a first down by Harmon.  Quick slant to Teddy Young and Noxubee County is on the 26.  Hold it, penalty, holding on the Tigers.  Swing pass, and incredibly, the Tigers have a first on the 22 of Laurel. 

2:22 in the 2nd Quarter - A swing pass by Noxubee turns into a fumble.  Ball back to the Golden Tornadoes.

While they didn't get any points out of this drive the Tigers picked themselves up off the mat and have taken it to the Golden Tornadoes.  They have pushed Laurel back to their side of the field and helped them get back the feeling they belong here.  With all the offense by the Golden Tornadoes the Tigers are still only one play away of tying this game.

2:14 in the 2nd Quarter - Double fouls:  Holding against Laurel, then Harmon throws the ball at a defender when he is tackled out of bounds.  Laurel loosing a little of their poise.  Fourth down and their backed up to their own 16 yard line.

1:07 in the 2nd Quarter - The Tigers are mounting a passing attack, trying to penetrate the Laurel D.  Conner throws a 38 yard reception, but an illegal formation negates the throw.  Sanders made a great over-the-shoulder catch but for naught.

::20 in the 2nd Quarter - A bad snap and a blocked punt and Laurel has the ball on the Tigers 22 yard line.  They HAVE to get something out of this.  A 22 yard pass to Russell Breland by Conner and Laurel finally gets a touchdown.  But miss the extra point!

::10 in the 2nd Quarter - Incredible.  A skykick by Laurel, a fair catch by the Tigers that hit the man in the shoulder pads and was fumbled, and Laurel gets the ball back on the 32 yard line.  10 seconds left, maybe time for 2 calls. 

A great pass to Russell Breland and they get the ball to the Tiger 16 yard line.  Man, incredible! 4 seconds left!!  Laurel is going for the touchdown, no field goal tries here.

Holy cow.  Pollard of Laurel had his hands on the ball in the endzone but couldn't hold on.  Noxubee has left the field groggy but not knocked out.  Amazing.

Halftime

10:38 in the 3rd Quarter - After taking the kick a flag on Noxubee County for pass interference.  I couldn't see it, but the officials are closer to the players than I am. 

As with all the games, you can see the 3rd quarter starting with a greater sense of urgency on both sides.  Noxubee is all over the field, and Laurel is steady driving.  A throw into the endzone is caught by Clifton Pollack.  One official said no, another one said yes.  The replay shows he had the ball long enough.  Good call.  Another bobble by the holder and the kick is no good.

Times over for Noxubee County.  They have to strike now to stay in the game.  Laurel is showing no signs of letting up.  They're focused and only a touchdown now can stop them.

On the kickoff another fair catch, but Noxubee County again fumbles the ball.  Bad news.  First down for Laurel at the 38 yard line.  The Tigers rise up and sack Akeem Davis of Laurel, forcing them to punt.  HUGE. 

8:32 in the 3rd Quarter - Blocked punt by the Tigers!  Noxubee County at midfield.  Noxubee County is going to go for it on fourth down and Conner hits Vincent Sanders for a first down on the 16 yard line.  Demarkus Harmon runs right up the gut for 9 yards for a touchdown.  Two point conversion, pass to Demarkus Harmon is good, and a little light peeks out for the Tigers.  6:01 left in the 3rd Quarter.

Tiger D has been tough all night.  With six minutes in the 3rd quarter they're is no need to panic.  They've proven they can score so they just need to up the pressure on Laurel.

1:35 in the 3rd Quarter - After sticking it to Laurel Noxubee throws two passes to Sanders puts the Tigers on the 18 yard line of the Golden Tornadoes.  Kenny Jenkins of Laurel picked it off on the 3 yard line.  Tough throw, going to the same area three times in a row.  Ball fluttered a little bit to.

End of 3rd Quarter

Noxubee is letting it all out now on defense.  They have crushed Conner the last two plays.  Laurel is forced to punt.

Noxubee is pounding Denmarkus Harmon straight down the throat of the Laurel Tornadoes.  They're now in the Laurel red zone and look ready to score.

8:58 in the 4th Quarter - Laurel rose up and sacked Conner, then Conner scampers out of a broken pocket for 8 yards for a first and goal on the 7.  Handoff up the middle to Harmon down to the two.  Another handoff to Hamons gets to the half-yard line.  Conner drops the ball, but gets it back and goes in for a touchdown.  Two pointer by Noxubee, Sandich switches with Conner and he runs it in for the two-pointer.  6:40 left in the game.

Laurel right now must be regretting all the missed opportunities they had in the first half and were unable to punch it in.  We're down the very end and 6 extra points would have looked good right now.

Short kick by Noxubee County, Laurel gets it.

5:58 in the 4th Quarter - BIG first down by Kendrick Kennedy of Laurel.  He bursts off tackle for a first down.  6 yard for Kennedy up the middle.  Laurel seems to have their feet back.  Kennedy for a another first down.

When teams come back from far behind, the thing you have to look for is if they have anything left in their tank.  Noxubee has climbed a mighty hill to get back in and now the question is do they have enough to take them the rest of the way.

3:46 in the 4th Quarter - BIG tackle by Jenkins.  Forces a 3rd and long.  They get three but the Tigers force a 4th down and 2 on the 25.  BAD SNAP!  Ball goes over Davis' head and Davis falls on it.  First down at midfield for Noxubee County.  2:39 left in the game.

2:32 in the 4th Quarter - Two incompletes by Conner and a time-out. 3rd and 10.  Laurel rises up and stops the screen pass for only 3 yards.  4th and 7.  Incomplete, and Laurel holds. 1:45 left.

1:40 in the 4th Quarter - Laurel just stuffs it in the middle and the Tigers call time out. Akeem Davis makes a smart play, he breaks for the corner for 7, stays inbounds and just sits down.  Noxubee County can't stop the clock.  A sweep by Davis and he's stopped behind the line.  Looks like the game is over.  15 seconds and it's definitely over, but Laurel gets a delay of game.  Then runs out of bounds with 4 seconds left.  Noxubee gets the ball.  One more snap and it's over. Noxubee throws down the field but Laurel intercepts.  Now its REALLY over.  Whew!  What a game!
